MA in Mediation, Tel Aviv University
My name is Sigal Kanotopsky, I made aliyah from Ethiopia at the age of 5 with my parents and four brothers. I am now married with three children of my own. Growing up in Israel as an Ethiopian posed many challenges. I have always had to prove myself, whether it is because I am Ethiopian or because I am a woman. It has meant always feeling that I am on guard, and that I needed to work extra hard in order to advance myself. Despite these challenges, I have always loved learning and studying, and if possible I would spend my life in academia. Following the completion of my BA in international relations, it was clear to me that I wanted to continue my academic studies. In addition to my studies, I also work for “Olim BeYachad” an organization that helps Ethiopian Israelis to advance themselves professionally. I know that I am very blessed to have a wonderful family and a comfortable position in Israeli society. That being said, tuition is very expensive as are the costs of raising a family in Israel. Keren Hanan Aynor is the only organization which is supporting me during my studies, and it is important that people understand that by supporting Keren Hanan Aynor, you are helping people who are not receiving assistance from any other source. Just as I teach my children to be persistent, have good values, and be hard workers, Keren Hanan Aynor emphasizes helping those who want to help themselves and who strive to become role models for their children and for others.
