Passover 2019

Dear Friends, Alumni and Supporters,

Wishing you health, joy, renewal and blessings this Passover season.

Ilana Aveje:
Fulfilling her dreams and giving back to the community

From the minute we began speaking, I could sense that Ilana Aveje is a strong and determined woman with a great deal of vision and motivation to succeed.
Ilana, an only child, made Aliya from Ethiopia at the age of eight with her grandmother and cousins and grew up in boarding schools in Kiryat Malachi in Israel.  She did not finish high school, however  later returned to complete her schooling.
Ilana is currently a social work student at the Academic College of Tzfat, in Northern Israel.  Even when she finds it difficult to raise her girls and study, she is determined to succeed – for the sake of her future and that of her two teenage daughters. “My girls are my strength”, she admits and we are happy to offer her the financial and motivational push she requested.
Although Ilana mentioned that she had a fear of failure and went back to school partly to prove to herself that she could be a role model for her two daughters, we at Keren Hanan Aynor see her as nothing short of a success story! After all, she is a single mother, who grew up with almost no family, and who against the odds, studies and works hard to make a difference for her family and the community. “As a young girl, I grew up in the welfare system. I dreamed of one day being on the other side – where I could help, listen and guide others “
Keren Aynor is pleased and proud to help her by being a part of her important journey as she works towards fulfilling her dream of becoming a social worker and giving back to the community.
